Having opened at the tail end of last year, I finally had the chance to take great pleasure in visiting The Jones Family Project. Found opposite the Hoxton Hotel in Shoreditch, this bar and restaurant has lived up to its outstanding reviews. Having spent the evening here with work colleagues, it really gave me a great amount of time here, and what a time I had!
When arriving at the Jones Family Project, you are greeted by a New York style long bar full of all your high-end drinking favourites. As we arrived after work for a couple of pre-drinks, it gave me time to take in the level of detail they’ve put into this place. When venturing downstairs to the much larger restaurant area, they have a decorated stage set for those who want to dine with a theme – how cool is that? At the moment it’s set up as a hunting lodge, so what better way to sink your teeth into some steak than to feel all rustic and manly about it too.
There is a clear sense of passion for food, drink and making you feel relaxed at The Jones Family Project. Having been set up by a group of friends, I feel this fairly new restaurant and bar to be one that stands out for me in Shoreditch and is well worth a visit.
Whether you feel you’re a bit of a foodie or a wine connoisseur, you are definitely in for a treat. With carefully sourced ingredients and a good value extensive wine list, you seriously will not find anything to falter your experience. The Jones Family Project’s bar is open from breakfast to midnight with plenty of room for all, the main restaurant is open every evening serving a mouth-watering a la carte dinner menu, and not forgetting a set lunch from Tuesday to Friday and all day brunch during the day at weekends.
So.. onto the food then! Where do I start? From the Jones’ Charcuterie Board to Red Curry Spiced Crispy Squid, its suffice to say they know their stuff. I have had authentic calamari but the spiced crispy squid was by far above and beyond all squid I’ve ever tasted. Having shared out some with work colleagues, I think we were all in agreement that the squid won the first round hands down. Starters are very reasonably priced starting from £6.50 with a wide varied selection to choose from. – Next time I visit I may have to go for the Cornish Crab!
Before I start on the mains, I think it’s fair to mention that the meat is supplied by the Ginger Pig in Levisham North Yorkshire. If you’ve never heard of The Ginger Pig I think it’s time you did. Absolutely wonderful meat – when it tastes this good, I know I will always be a carnivore without a doubt.
Cooked straight from the Josper Charcoal oven, we were served an array of beef steaks. Rib eye, Sirloin, Fillet, no matter what your favourite cut of meat is, you won’t be disappointed. I went for the Bone in Prime Rib (for 2 people) at £6.70 per 100g – it’s worth its weight in gold. Cooked to absolute perfection (a very succulent medium to rare) we all ate like kings with all the sides ordered.
I will certainly be coming back as I’m sure you can tell. I don’t usually rate many places, but this may be my new favourite for Shoreditch.
